Anybody out there keeping Rainbow fish in a planted aquarium? I would like to add some to my
75 gallon planted aquarium but I have gotten conflicting stories about whether or not they destroy
plants.

Anyone with first hand info would be appreciated.

Yes, they will eat a little of your plants. It's advised that you keep them in a tank that has fast growing plants to combat this, although they aren't as voracious plant eaters as silver dollars.

I am growing out a rainbowfish fry in a small planted tank at the moment, and he is having a nibble on the plants, but not really affecting growth much.

As said above, silver dollars are FAR worse.

My Praecox haven't eaten mine, but my tank is only lightly planted mixed with silk plants. I think if they have plenty of vegetable matter in their diet they won't bother. Mine have spirulina flakes every day, plus tropical and cichlid (also have cichlids in there) pellets and the odd bit of algae wafer.

Get a reasonable bunch of Cambomba, it grows like {insert rude word here}/heck and fish love to munch on it ;)
