I didn't know where else to post this.

Today i bought two rainbow fish (they were £6 EACH!!) and they were under the name Melanotaenia jervani (spelling?) but when i asked the guy he said they were a hybrid between m. boesmani and red rainbow (scientific name?). Is it possible to hybrid these fish and is there such thing as m.jervani??

The Red Rainbow is Glossolepis incisus thus not the same genus as M. boesmani. They are of the same family of course, and I guess it may be distantly for them to be hybridised but highly unlikely I would say. Why anyone would want to do that escapes me. Usually hybrids do not have scientific names. I can't find M. jevani or anything that sounds like that.

Try to post a picture of them.
