Hi i have 3 young boseman rainbow fish 2 of which have sort of spikes of white skin flapping around on their top lips! has anyone got any idea what it is and how to treat if necessary.
I had this classic sympton when breeding these rainbows back in the early eighties. Add a small amount of Cooking Salt (not table salt) to their aquarium. That will soon clear things up.

Be careful adding salt to a freshwater tank. Some fish are very sensitive to, what is after all, a pollutant. If you have scaleless fish in particular, Corys, Loaches etc., do not add salt to your tank, medicate the rainbows in a seperate tank, this is a good idea anyway.
Sorry I forgot to mention the obvious, as I was breeding them in their own tank, and there were no other inhabitants. Please take note of what what Lateral has implied if they are housed with scaleless fish, and reduce the dosage accordingly.
