Brill thanks for that link, sometimes they show the thick band quite dark other times its not there at all, some have faint purplish bands.

they are about 2 1/2" to 3" in size now.

the first fish looks like a M. herbertaxelrodi but shows too much orange. could be a M. trifasciata but there are way too many varieties of them to identify based on those pictures. the fish in picture 2 looks to be a hybrid a M. species with a G. dorityi or something similar from the glossolepis family...

where did you get these fish? unless you got them from a reputable breeder, chances are you have hybrids

better, bigger pictures could help. if you want info a better place for rainbowfish info, send me a pm...

Got them all from my local MH, tbh they completly change colours throughout the day and I was thinking they could be x breed of the banded and something else. I will try to get better pictures eventually but I find rainbows very hard to photograph a. with my camera and b. they are just all over the place.

Thanks

This one has my stumped. It can be difficult to ID rainbows sometimes due to their nature and color changing ability. Part of me wants to say banded, buy they aren't showing the dark band especially the male in picture 2. I don't want to call them hybrids, but it is possible. Either way they are attractive fish. Did you get them from a local breeder or a lfs?

These are trifasciata pictures found here. As you can see, the dark band is very prominant, making these most likely hybrids, but I can't say for sure. They sort of look like the "M. Marcii" hybrids I have seen before in pictures only.

They do show very dark bands early in the morning, during the corse of the day these bands get paler and disappear, they then get fainter purplish bands during the day when displaying. Again they can appear quite orange at times other times quite dull in colour. I will have to take some more photos, hopefully better ones with their colour change throughout the day.

If it is any help the only label they had in the LFS was Pigeon Blood Rainbows.

Thanks for all replies
