So a friend of mine, with the best intentions, brought me a rainbow crab as a present after being told by an aquatics shop that they'd be fine in my tank, wouldn't eat fish and were fully aquatic. Knowing this was wrong I've set up an old 10 gallon tank as a short term solution until I can take it back within the next week, now I need some advice as to the best way to keep it until I manage to do this. I've set up the tank with about 4-5 inches of water which has been conditioned with a load of spare rocks and bogwood placed to form a land area. Unfortunately the tanks unfiltered as I haven't got a spare one lying around, I also wasn't sure about putting a heater in as although I read that they like water around the 24 degree mark I didn't know whether my spare heater would be overkill as there's not much water.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I don't know about crabs, but if your room is as cold as mine, I would definately heat the water, and the thermostat should regulate it.
I had to look up how to look after a shrimp the other day when my local fish shop gave me a bag of fish, except, one of them wasn't a fish!
