R.o Water Storage

Could I store R.O water in a standard water butt from a garden center or will it be a risk cos chemicals may leech into water ?


How do you store your water ? And for how long (both R.O and Salted R.O)?

I use 6 gallon (US) paint buckets from Home Depot. They sell brand new clean bukets, so they have never been used. Just a quick rinse and then fill from the ro filter. I only fill 4 at a time (last a month or so) with one being made up salt water and 3 just clean ro for top-off.

Of course, if you have a bigger tank, it's better to keep more water on hand, so you may wish to look into a single big container, say 50 or 60 gallon drum if you have the storage space and do frequent water changes.

we've bought some drums from the lfs, so long as it's sealed in an airtight way and the plastic won't leech any nasties into it, there's no reason why you can't sore it for a few weeks at least

I bought 25 liter canisters from Wilco MotoSave with de-ionised water in it for £ 8.99. Similar vessels empty at one LFS: £ 7.99.

(And now come up again with the "typical Yorkshireman counting the pennies".)

Should be fine. I store mine in a closet storage bin with a rope tied around it (to counter bowing) and a garbage can

lmao (at your comment) thats a great idea about buying the de-ionised water, and its good for the aquarium

I store RO in a common rainwater butt on a stand in the garage, It is aireated via a small pump and its also heated so all I have to do at weekly waterchange is add salt and stir.
