I was planning on just using premixed water from an LFS in my new tank. Then I got to thinkin, it's $0.99 a gallon and I have a 120g tank. Granted there will be some displacement once I put the LR and sand in there but still, that's over $100 just to fill my tank. Then when I want to do water changes it'll be another $20 or so (plus gas cuz that LFS is pretty far and gas is expensive now...and I drive fast). I started looking at some R/O units and figure I can get one that does 50 or even 100 gpd for around $200. Do these units hook up easily? I live in an apartment and wouldn't want to mess around too much with all their stuff here. Also, is it worth it do get the whole R/O unit? or should I just shlep back and forth from the LFS with 5g buckets anytime i wanna do a water change? Also, If i do buy extra water, will it stay? Will I have to aerate it or can it just sit fine in the closet until i need to use it?

Depending on whit brand of RO unit you get they are very easy to fit. Simply plumb it into the water mains supply and thats it really. Far better than lining the pockets of your lfs.

Thanks, i'm not really much of a plumber :*) but i'll talk to a few of my friends and see if they could do it.

I've already lined my LFS' pockets enough. When I bought the tank, i bought 2 canister filters to go with it. My friend showed me online where the filters were $70 a piece cheaper. Last night I just bought a bunch of stuff online so I could save that money. looking at those sites are what made me start thinkin' about the R/O system

Mine was designed and built by a small compant from the UK. I dont know if they will mail out to the states but their products are superbs and very very cheap. I will PM you the link as i dont think i am allowed to do this here
