Today I awoke to find my newly bought fish, Cracker, dead. It wasn't a surprise...she was breathing very slowly and wouldn't move much. The day before she had had babies...I checked on her babies today and about 98% of them were dead. Only about 6 out of 30 survived. I guess she was sick and it hurt her babies.

Awwww, so sorry to hear that.

She might have passed something on to her babies, but it's more likely it's something else. What are your current water stats? And how often have you been feeding the little ones?

maybe she died in birth? I don't know about that but I do know that I had one fish that have given birth to far more dead fry than living ones so at least thats not completely out of the ordinary.

Well the thing is, she birthed them..and they all were COMPLETELY healthy. Only like 2 or 3 were stillborn...but the next day [today] I woke up and the babies stomach guts were coming out of their bodies... I'm surprised that 6 survived.
