It doesnt seem like Bruce is all that happy in his tank.I was thinking of getting something bigger for him. What do you guys think r bettas ok in 1/2 gallon???

in my opinion, they need a bigger home. my betta was so sick and sad in his small tank, and i moved him to a bigger heated tank and i never saw him so happy. ~dEx :*

Really??How big do you think I should go???I have a 10 gallon with 3 neon tetras and 2 guppies, could he go in there??? :/

Yea he could go in there. I put my betta's in a 10 gallon tank with Feeder guppies and a Newt, and the other in a 10 gallon tank with 5 neon tetras, 5 Zebra Danios, 2 Dwarf Gouramis (female, male), 2 ottos, and 2 corys. The tank is a little crowded but it looks beatuiful. Pics to come soon, but i have to say my 2 beautiful bettas have never been happier!

Hi angel lover!! :)

I say no go on putting a betta with guppies. Too much tail ripping going on in that scenario. Most of my bettas are in divided 10 gallon tanks (divided into 3) and divided 5.5 gallon tanks (divided in half). The 2.75 gallons each has in a divided 5.5 seems totally adequate to me, but I personally wouldn't want to go smaller. They enjoy the space to swim, imo. However, I know there are some very avid betta keepers on this board who keep happy, healthy bettas in 1 gallon tanks. My personal opinion is that they do best in heated water. The filtration isn't entirely necessary, provided you're willing to do water changes at least every couple of days. They really like live plants, also. I've grown ceratopteris as a floating plant in betta tanks with no lighting at all.

i'll put in my 2 cents worth......i keep 3 bettas in 1/2 gallons 1 in 1 gallon and one in a 10 gallon community tank..........2 of the bettas in the half gallons r so happy it's disgusting (Citrus the female got ick from being in the 10 gallon) Squishy well he's a lazy bubble nester and i think a big tank would stress him out

the only guy who is in a 10 gal is Peach and i don't like him in there.......he paces, chases the other fish and his tail is in ribbons because he hangs around the filter and it get's sucked up!!!!!!!!! if i had money and space i would have all my bettas in 2.5 gallon tanks!

Why not put Peach in a Hagen Marina Betta Kit? Works for your three other bettas, and works for one of mine, too! :)

My betta was in an unheated container less than one gallon, and he made a big bubblenest. It really depends on the betta, I guess...but since I lessened the plants in the container, he stopped bubblenesting. So I think i'll go get some more plants over the weekend.

i put him in the 10 gallon temporarily but he actually seems to be doing quite well in there,no fighting and it seems like he is enjoying the space

That's great, angel lover!! Every betta has such an individual personality. It's almost impossible to generalize about what situation will work. If he's not harassing your guppies and everyone seems happy, I'm sure you can leave him there!
