at present the temp up here in scotland is 32 oc my fish fank isnt in direct sunlight but the water temp is at 29/30..I only did a water change yesterday so I dont wanna risk altering the balance by doing water changes, my filter is still trying to recover from when it was washed in tap water...

please some advice ASAP

You could try putting a bottle of cold water in the tank?

I'm sure someone with more experience will be along soon!

your best bet is to freeze a couple water bottles with water and put one in your tank at a time...as that one thaws out, if you still need it cooler you take one of the fresh ones out of the freezer and put the thawed one back in to freeze...
and if that doesnt work THAT well..use 2 water bottles...or 3...or whatever your tank needs to stay cool, but make sure it doesn't get too cool!

It should not cause too many problems with FW fish as many experience this in the wild.

If you are really worried, check out the posts earlier on this subject, I believe you can get a room cooler for as little as 30 quid if you look around.

if u want somthing quick im shore you can buyt frozen ic ecubes down you local super market

do you have a desk fan?
if so turn it on and direct it at either the front of the tank of at the tanks surface. also open or remove the lid allowing a better circulation of air at the surface.
turn off lights as this produces heat too.

Heat itself may be less of a problem than low oxygen levels (less oxygen in hot water). I found an airstone, combined with propping the taklid semi-ope made a big difference.

The-Wolf is correct. If you dont have air-con to keep the room temp down then grab a fan and direct this at the waters surface. Havent tried the frozen bottles myself but it makes sense. Personally I wouldnt of turned off the heater as when the temp drops at night this could lead to big temperature swings.
