I have a 55 gallon tank with a 7 inch JD in it and I am remodling it with sand and at the same time trying to get rid of the algae problem that I have but do you think that maybe a 4.5-5 inch GT would be able to hold up against Bert.

It's worth a try. I've seen some pretty bad GT's before. JD's, normally are about the same aggro level as GT's tho some are more docile and a few can be a bit more boisterous.

Since you are taking the JD out of the tank to change substrate, I think it will work. If possible, it might work better if you can put the GT in there for a week and let him get established then put the JD in later since he's bigger. Don't do a water change the day of the move tho. Let the GT be in full control and secure when you add the JD.

Thanks SMB now to find one....This is the part that SUCKS about living in the UP

Juan,

I have two wild male gold suams (green terrors). One is to a pair however.

You do know that the true green terror has not been collected in many, many years!!

The green terrors you see available are actually not green terrors. The go by gold suam and silver suam due to the color of the dorsal edging.

The true green terror is very difficult to collect due to it's location.

I will try to find my pics of the true green terror and post it for you.

hey CM how hard is it to get the silver suams? I heard that they were rarer in the trade....

Juan,

They are rare in the trade. No one is quite sure if it's a seperate species or just a geographical varient.

hmmmmm okay thanks CM now for the next question. how much more difficult is it to keep wild fish vs. those that aren't?

Juan,

If you bring the fish in from the wild...it is a little tricky. They most times come in with external parasites and usually intestinal worms.

They have to be "debugged" in a sense.

You also have to contend with getting them to eat which can be a tedious process.

If you buy wild caught fish that have already been debugged (which is what most shops carry) they are really no harder to keep than tank raised specimens.

Holy crap CM!!! Great pics my man!

juan, as a sidenote, I'm going to stay out of this and let CM handle this after this post but to back up what CM said about "true" GT's. It's very true. I wasn't going to post about it but since I had to compliment him on his fish I thought I'd say it.
Infact, it's so true that I don't even think twice to reply to someone like I did above to let them know that and assume everyone knows that. It's been at least 8 years now since I've seen a true Aequidens rivulatus in a lfs. There "might" be some that sell them or have but I don't know about them.

I will try to make an attempt in the future if anyone posts to let them know this fact but it's been so long now since a true A. rivulatus has been around I never even thought about mentioning it.

Sorry to say, it's not mine!!

Fish and pics belong to a customer of mine somewhat in your neck of the woods smb...good ol' Toledo.

smb.....please always feel free to join in on these posts. Your insight and experience are much appreciated and I for one look forward to them.

Just a side note....He got that fish for $7.00!!! It was mixed in with a tank of gold saums and was the only silver in the tank.

What makes me sick about is this....he got it from a lfs in MY area!! One of the drawbacks to not visiting my lfs due to getting everything from my suppliers.

OH WELL!!!

yeah SMB don't be shy...
Thanks for putting up with all the ?'s CM... Now I have to convince the wife to let me get one in about a month or so, I think I will try the old my birthday is comeing up and this is what I want.... what do you think you might be getting a PM from her sooner or later about getting one.

I'll keep a look out for it Juan. ;) ;) :p

No problems on the questions either. Glad I had some time to spend on the forum tonight.

Yea, Toledo isn't all that far from me. :)

I'll join in if I can add something and didn't mean to make you guys think otherwise, it's just I don't know much about the silver/gold finned and until tonight, never even heard of them. Sorry to make you guys think there was another reason. :)

That's all I meant tho. :)
