Fish Crazy
Hello everyone,
I tried posting on another topic about filter media for polishing water. I've read quite of posts recommending polyfil for water polishing. However, I can't get my hands on any of this stuff for quite a while. Is there something similar to it that I can buy somewhere (like at a hardware store or craft store)?
You see, a couple of my tanks are starting to develop a film across the top. They're both overfiltered and there's plenty of surface agitation. I thought about adding small internal filters to the tanks to clean it ip but I don't want to create anymore current than I have to. Plus, buying media would be cheaper than buying two internal filters anyways. So, I thought maybe I need to add some media to remove this film. I wanted to see if anyone has any ideas on this before I drop anything into the tank.
I was at wally world the other day and looking around in the DIY section and found this ( I stole the image from the company website) Its the foam sleeve for a shop vac vacuum. It reminds me of the filter sleeves for the older magnum 350 canister filters. It would actually be cheaper for me to buy these vs. buying the refill media for my aquatech on my 20g.
I've been trying to look for some sort of diy filter media for my filters lately and this was one of the ideas I had. On the packaging, it doesn't say anything about being mold resistant, fire retardant or anything else indicating it's harmful.
Has anyone else used this or something similar? I thought it could work. I just wanted other people's opinions as to whether or not it's a good idea. If it won't work, no big deal.
If anyone has any info on DIY filter media that would be great. I'm not a cheap ass, I just feel like I could find something locally instead of driving for two hours to a LFS just to order the same thing.
Thanks in advance,
BobRoss
