Hey, I have enought tanks, but I think one is too small, can I keep a betta in a . 94 gallon temporarily? There's a great deal on 2.5's up at my lfs and i can buy one when i get my allowance, so is this ok?

If you wanted to you could keep him in their permently because bettas have been put in smaller things than that. Like I have a male betta in a 1/2 gallon fish bowl and he's fine.

I hate to say it, but there's a difference between "fine" and thriving. The general consensus on this forum and others is that the absolute minimum size tank for a betta's permanent home is 1 gallon, and while I keep many of my bettas in 1 gallons I think 2.5 or even 5 gallons is much better. 1 gallon is adequate, and in my opinion anything less could be considered cruel. The fish barely has room to move around.

Anyway, .94 gallons is close enough to be ok as a temporary or even permanent home, but if you're willing to get the 2.5 gallon I'm sure the fish would thank you

I totally agree with synirr,

The larger the tank the better. Afterall since your betta fish will become your pride and joy its a good idea to keep them as happy as possible.

The main guy at my fish shop says he keeps a male betta in a pint glass  I had my old guy in a 10L tank, he seemed really happy. He used to eat flakes out of my fingers

Well he's only in their until his fins heal and then he will be going back to his 2.5 minibow. So I'm not being cruel to him. :grr: I was just trying to find out why he was biting his tail. And he gets a weekly water change so he's not being kept in poor water conditions like at a lps.

Well, it not a minibowl, but they got a 2.5 gallon tank, at my lfs, which i'll buy. along with a ten gallon.

Oh, well that's a different story then! I thought you meant it was his permanent home! My apologies.
I keep ill bettas in 1/2 gallons sometimes to save on meds, but I think 1/2 gallons should probably get at least twice weekly water changes, since there's less water to dilute any ammonia present... I've never actually tested the water in an unfiltered tank after it has been sitting for a week though, so that's just my opinion. Too bad I cleaned all my tanks today... maybe I'll test the water next Wednesday and see how filthy they really get in a week :p

dang, I just cleaned my betta bowls 2 or i would have tested one yeah and i think i know what tank you're talkin about I have a few sittin aound is it a corner bowl thingy?
