A Shrine To Madness
Hey, I have enought tanks, but I think one is too small, can I keep a betta in a . 94 gallon temporarily? There's a great deal on 2.5's up at my lfs and i can buy one when i get my allowance, so is this ok?

I hate to say it, but there's a difference between "fine" and thriving. The general consensus on this forum and others is that the absolute minimum size tank for a betta's permanent home is 1 gallon, and while I keep many of my bettas in 1 gallons I think 2.5 or even 5 gallons is much better. 1 gallon is adequate, and in my opinion anything less could be considered cruel. The fish barely has room to move around.Durbkat said:If you wanted to you could keep him in their permently because bettas have been put in smaller things than that. Like I have a male betta in a 1/2 gallon fish bowl and he's fine.

The larger the tank the better. Afterall since your betta fish will become your pride and joy its a good idea to keep them as happy as possible.

Oh, well that's a different story then! I thought you meant it was his permanent home! My apologies.Durbkat said:Well he's only in their until his fins heal and then he will be going back to his 2.5 minibow. So I'm not being cruel to him.I was just trying to find out why he was biting his tail. And he gets a weekly water change so he's not being kept in poor water conditions like at a lps.
