Quick question Do I keep this thing on my plant

I have it like this currently, do you think this would work?

That should be fine. What's the thing you have the plant in btw? The only thing you should be cautious of is the root structure growing into your equipment (filter impellers etc). I myself like to grow pothos roots in some of my tanks, it sucks nitrates and looks good on the tank. But I wouldn't put pothos with fish that might nibbles at it because it has calcium oxalate which is an irritant. There are many plants that can be planted this way this is just an example. I believe this to be a bamboo plant if I'm not mistaken. If it is I recommend keeping the leaves above water level because it is not an aquatic plant. And it will suck out your nitrates like nothing.

I have it fully submerge and yes you need to take what ever package they are in while delvered to you .. clean up the roots with running water and then burried it within 4 inches of your substrate ... The thicker your substrate the better just ensure that type of subtrate you use are not fine grain sand since sand is so compact that the roots will have difficulties to grow and slow down the growth in a bad way .

Lucky Bamboo is a slow growth and very easy to take care off ..
