Quick, I Need A Substitute For Vodka To Euthanize My Fish(right Now)

He he suffering with Bloat, and it's too far to cure. I have clove oil, but I don't have vodka. What else can I use? Vinegar? Ammonia? Thanks

Eee! You don't need Vodka; that is extremely painful, and unneeded.
Just take your fish out and place him in a small container half filled with aquarium water. Then, scoop enough water to fill the rest of the container into a container with a lid. Pour in the clove oil (I use the whole bottle since it is small) into the container and shake vigorously until the oil is dispersed through the water. Then, pour this solution into the container holding your fish. He should go still and stop breathing almost instantly. If you leave the fish in for 3 hours and watch for glazing of the eyes, shedding slime coat, and paleness, you can pretty much guarentee the animal is dead. However, if you want to be extra sure, you can destroy the brain after the fish seems "out."

Instead of destroying the brain, could you just bury/flush it?

Well, the point of destroying the brain is the make sure the fish is dead. I suggest just leaving it in the clove oil solution for several hours and looking for signs of death; no destroying brain, no freezing, no burying. Just look for the signs of a dead fish: color leaving the body, glazed eyes, shod slime coat, etc. If you've seen a dead fish, you'll know what to look for.

I left him in the clove oil till he was breathing slowly and laying upside down oon the bottom(took 2 drops). Then I put him into 30F water(instant shock, stops the heart), he died quickly.

Actually, I've read in numerous places that freezing or hot water isn't really the best way to euthanize. However, hopefully he was doped up enough from the clove oil to have not felt it. In the future, a significant amount of clove oil in a small amount of water does indeed kill very quickly and easily.

You want to Euthanize it ...Well actually I can understand that its the right thing to do but it always pokes a hole in my heart to kill an animal.

i could never kill an animal either, unless its a bug, which i dont think is considered as an animal
