Hey, I'm doing a little "experimenting" on two fish with persistant finrot, and I need to know the salt dose for a 1g tank. I *think* its 1tsp, but I really am not sure. I'm going to see how daily cleaning, salt, confined space, and sunlight effect fin rot, as large tanks, raised temp, salt, frequent cleaning, and about 3 different kinds of anti-biotics won't do the trick. :X

If this doesn't work, I might have to try.. ::shudders:: tail trimming, as it is getting dangerously close to the body. So, if anyone has good info on the best method for that as well, please do post it. I hope it doesn't come down to that, but I'm getting very worried...

A Live-in treatment with salt is 1 TBSP salt per 1 gallon (the dip is 4TBSP salt per gallon).

To trim a tail:

Get a washcloth, get it wet (preferrably the same temp as the tank or a tad warmer (not from the tank though, needs to be clean (and dechlorinated) water).

Hold the fish inside the wet washcloth and leave the tail exposed, use sharp scissors (fabric scissors work best) to clip off the dead scetions...going just slightly above the dead section into good tissue.

Use a Q-tip to dap some peroxide on the cut section, leave on for 10-15 seconds, then rinse it off.

Give the fish a salt Dip afterwards (for as long as he can stand). Repeat every other day for a week.

Helps to have them in a salt bath during this week.

I've had to do this, and it worked well.
