we are into the phase where the eggs are hatching. Only problem is dad seems shattered and isn't picking up the fry and taking them to the surface. There are about half the fry on the bottom of the tank.

Is this going to be a problem? Will they hatch still?
Do the eggs have to be in the nest to hatch/grow?

So many questions.....so little time

any help much appreciated..........

Basicalliy he was not conditioned straight from the lfs,... its tired him out..........no i have had to take a male out as he started eating the eggs but the hatch rate is reduced the male tends the eggs and stops them from getting fungus and not hatching if he is not tending him watch him as when they start to hatch ha may have a nice meal of the fry, you may get away with the hatching as they will be starting in the next 6-12 hours to hatch......keep us posted

cheers bettaman.

They are already hatching. They are trying to swim to the surface. He's still in the game and sucking them up. He spits them out to the surface but they just fall to the bottom as he didn't do to well when making his nest.

He's not eating them he's trying desperately to put them back to the top.

Poor fella. Hope he doesn't eat um all during the night. Bet claire has us up all night watching over him!

it's all good fun isn't it?

if he is still working dont worrie to much then......my only concern is he was not conditioned and thats when he may get hungry when they annoy him have you got plant in the tank....mine have java moss in them so they fry once free swimmimg hide in that if you have any floating plant put some in they will hang off it and some will attach them self to the glass,,,,,but hope he keeps his cool...... :/

You might as well fed the male with bloodworm so he get his energy back. If he eats it, good. If not just take it out by sucking, try some later until he wants to eat. I do this to my hungry plakat. He need food everyday like a big hungry pig. He didn't eat the babies at all. Sometimes male betta just keep working and working and don't want to eat. They only eat the rotten eggs and the shell of the eggs after hatching. Some totally don't eat the rotten eggs. They just pile them on one side of the ground like my red halfmoon male. :p
