Quick Barb Question

Shalom,

I had 8 Tiger Barbs and I have just added 5 Cherry Barbs.

I just to ask... Will They get on ok? Will all Barbs types get on ok together??

Its a 240 Litre tank.

Everything should get along ok. Just make sure the water conditions are kept excellent to avoid stressing the fish. As long as the tiger barbs are not FAR larger than the cherry barbs there should be no difficulty. In general, however, cherry barbs are much different from most other barbs in that they are relatively passive. As long as the tiger barb aggression is kept to a minimum it should be a very entertaining (and colorful) tank.

I did notice that the Cherries are kinda shy... they did hang out behind all the plants at the back

No, the Tiger Barbs stay to them selfs... they just chase each other and dont really go near the Cherries. Also the Tiger Barbs are the same size, if not a tiny bit smaller.

I want a totally barb tank... But how many fish can I get in my tank?
Its 1.5 inch of fish per Gallon right??

The "rule" always was 1" per imperial gallon, a value which I always felt uncomfortable with thinking it tends to over stock. Barbs are clean water fish and a packed tank is not going to do them any favours at all. That said, the quality of filtration gear these days is perhaps better than it was when I learnt the "rule", in the 1960's. Whatever the "rule", a packed tank is never going to look good, especially with active fish like barbs. Remember also that "rules" concern adult size. If you stock at 1" per gallon with juveniles, you have problems on the way.

Tiger Barbs tend to be a semi-aggresive species, but in a group that size, will tend to keep their attention on others of the same type. Cherry Barbs are quite inoffensive fish that spend a lot of their time patrolling the bottom of the tank, in other words, they don't typically get in the way of Tiger Barbs.

Most barbs are peaceful enough to keep together as long as obvious size differences are considered.
