Hey, i currently have an internal filter that came with my tank. I hate the look of it and getting annoyed with how bad it works. I just recently got another tank and put my group of tiger barbs in there. Now i have a tank with just a BN plec. Now i want a comunity tank and work is on it way but im not sure i want to use the same filter. I want an external thats not to expensive and does a good job. The filter i got with my tank personally i didnt think it was too great and although the water quality was good it didnt seem to clean up the fish poo. Now would an external be powerfull enough to clean the water and does it suck up the fish poo. Isit because im using sand as a substrate? not sure what the filter is called but my tank is a 95 litre. Is my tank even big enough for an external or really should an internal be good enough?

Hi,
As far as I know, you cant get filters that suck up fish poo. The only way you can get rid of this is to syphon it up when doing your water changes.
For my 60L I have a Fluval U2 and I really like it. It is silent and easy to maintain so for your tank I would recommend a Fluval U3. It is suitable for aquariums from 90L-150L.
Thanks,
Elise

I think its always a good idea to run an external, I think they're more efficient at what they do. As for the fish poo, you'll have to gravel vac to get rid of it. If you want external, how about fluval 105, i've seen one on seapets for about 60 pounds.

i found on ebay the 105 which aint a bad price but for like a pound more i found the 205! so i take its alot more powerfull. will this bee ok in a 95L tank? will it be too powerfull? it will filter 680L a hour so thats like my tank 7 odd times an hour? is this too much? will it cause stress to my fish? will it suck my fish in? can i use this with sand? the more filtration the better i guess means better water quality but just worried u can over filter it i guess?

Can never over filter a tank. Yes the 205 would be good. The fish wont get stressed out or sucked in. I have a 90litre being filtered by a 1400lp/h filter and that is fine.

I have the fluval 205, and if you are worried about too much water flow, it has the ability to regulate the water flow, so if you think that the fish are being stressed out just decrease the water flow on the outflow... I HIGHLY recommend the externals .....

cheers for the reply so you can have a slow water flow can you thats good. just thought with it being for a bigger tank it might have to much flow for the tank. how much did u pay for your 205?

Have a look at the YOUTUBE clip on the installation and operation of the FLUVAL 205 (600 litres per hour) suitable for up to a 120 Litre tank. There is also a 105 - smaller version - they all come with regulator switches - which is also their shut off valve - like a tap - to shut off the flow - between the tank and filter so that you can disconnect and maintain the filter. This regulator valve also controls the flow of water into and out of the tank - without affecting the impeller.... (youtube clip located at - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbh3Ii7Qero) also look at part 2.. All the best - I have had my FLUVAL for 3 days and it has made a HUGE difference....(But I am running the internal at the same time - so that I do not lose the BIOLogical set-up already in the tank) - so do not go and just remove your existing filtration - if you have fish - to replace it with your new one - as this will change the chemicals in your water and affect your fish. Run them in parallel - until your external has been setup.

I am in Australia Melbourne and I picked up the FLUVAL (new) $170 Australian.

I would recommend getting a eheim classic... Bulletproof design and proven to out work and out last all the competition out there! Some people been using them for over 10+ years without any issues!

Grandad had a eheim classic that was my dads about 20 years ago and we worked out it is about 27years old. Swapped it over to an APS on thursday.

ok so ive decided that im going to get the 205 when i get paid at the end of the month. now i have another queston... i dont know if any of you have the elite 95L tank atall. but the pipes that go from the filter into the tank how wide are they and will they fit in the holes allready made in the hood of my tank? just i was looking today it the holes either side of the hood arnt massive but ive neva seen how wide the pipes are that come from the filter. hope somone knows lol
