I have a 29 gal reef and was wondering exactly what kind of Bulb do I want for maximum growth of Green Star Polyps and White Star Polyps. I have a max of 3 flourecent 24in bulbs I can put over it and im hoping to max out at 90 watts(?)

any help would be appreciated and info on growth rate.. Im kind of a noob!

I doubt you will get 30watts from a 24inch fluoro globe. Most 24inch globes have 18watts. High Output T5s might have more.

Get globes with a 10,000Kelvin (K) rating if possible.
Don't go higher than 14,000K, or lower than 6,000K

I have GSP in my nano which only has X2 18w double tube PC's in it. It took a little while to get going but it has has grown about 3-5inch in all directions in the last 3 months. so much so that it has gone from one fairly small rock to covering half the tank!

thanks guys. any more info on how to get these things growin fast would be much apprecitated!

clean water, good light and a bit of food each day will help them grow fast. Any sort of small food, chopped fish, prawn, brineshrimp, etc can be offered. Just feed them a little bit each day.

*NB* they don't need to be fed but grow faster if they are fed.

how would you go about feeding polyps like that? Don't each polyp need its own nutrients?

Get something like "marine snow" or other similar food, turn the powerheads off and then use a turkey baster or similar to gentle squirt the marine snow near the corals. Leave it for a few minutes then turn the powerheads back on.

Also you might want to get some brine shrimp eggs. Put half a teaspoon of them in your tank every so often to give everything in there some baby brine shrimp to eat when they hatch.

You only want to add "decapsulated brineshrimp eggs" directly to the tank. The normal eggs have a shell on them and it takes 24-48 hours for them to hatch. During that time most of the eggs will probably be caught by the filter.

Decapsulated eggs have had the shell removed and fish, corals, etc can eat them straight away. Again tho turn the filter off for a few minutes while you feed it to prevent it being sucked up and removed from the water.

yah ive done that before with the brine shrimp eggs. Kinda fun to watch em squiggle around when they are babies. My friend had succes growing them to full size from the eggs. Just put agout a tablespoon or 2 of baby food (Green bean or Peas) in a bottle of water and shake for a few minutes. only costs about 50 cents every 2 weeks to feed em.
