Just wondering how fast the growth rate are for Bristlenose plecs??? How Long would it take for then to reach their max size???. Mines are close to 2" now and I could barely see the spikes on their mouth....Also what's the lifespan for these fish at captivity???? thanks....

our male is about 8 months old now and about 4.5"
Our female is the same age and is about 3"

as for life expectancy - I'm really not sure. :dunno:

I have 3 that I got last August at under 1/2". They were so cute

Anyway, back to the subject.....They are now about 3", and none are showing bristles....I'm afraid I have all females, but that's ok.

From that you can figure they will be adult size soon??? I'm guessing, I have no idea

Life span....they say from 7-15 years, but I've also heard longer?

HTH :)

Thanks for the info guys/gals.. well i think i have a pair cause both are the same size and one of them has barely any bristle and the other one is starting to show so i'm guesing hes a male....I read somewhere also that males likes to hide more compare to the female which is in my case... I rarely see him and the female is always out sucking algae on the glass.....I'm hoping to get them healthy and maybe to spawn.....

Yup, my male definitely is more shy than females. The male is also a little more territorial, so you might see a little more aggressive behavior from him...

My male is always in hiding to. Most the time when he is spawning... who knows maybe hes making a nest
My very large male bristlenose has just gone into hiding behind a large rock when I changed tanks over. He comes out briefly when i turn the tank lights off but not for long. I also introduced a female when I upgraded tanks. So I hope there are some little eggies behind there! fingers crossed :D

You will find out soon enough... ;)

If the male stays there all the time, fanning with fins and not eating, then you most likely have the eggs...

At what age do bristlenose reach sexual maturity???, I read somewhere that they can be fertile by the time they reach 2"??? is this true??

Mine started to breed between 2 and 2.5 inches. Not sure which of the female was holding the egg, so I'm not sure if she bred at 2 or 2.5 inches though...
