I have 2 questions:
1) Do corys or otos hurt/attacl/kill other fish? A guppy just died, as it happened quite suddenly and it was not sick before, I suspect foul play. The guppy did not look like it had any typical fish disease. (I am a physician and it looked to be that the fish died of some kind of internal hemmorhage. The fish turned dark black overnight. )
2) I have a 40 US gallon tank with 4 guppies, 4 platys, 5 danios, 1 bronze cory, 1 pepper cory, 2 otos, and 3 small platys (about half the size of an adult). Am I overstocked?
3) I worry that the corys and otos are not getting enough food. I feed my other fish twice a day with flakes. I feed in very small amounts (worried that I will cloud the water) so not a lot of food end up at the bottom of the tank for the corys. I have tried feeding shrimp pellets and algae tablets but the other fish get to the food before the corys. I bought a automatic feeder a few days ago, my intention is to use it to dispense pellets and tablets in the early morning (say 2 AM) when the other fish are sleeping. Knowing that corys are nocturnal, they should have a better shot of getting to the food when the other fish are sleeping. Sounds like a good idea?
Please help.
Thanks for your help in advance.
