I have a bunch of thread algae in my tank and I have researched a load and asked at my lfs what are good fish to eat this stuff....anyways Siamese Algae eaters are supposed to be the best fish for this. My questions is though how many can I squeeze in my tank? I know they get to about 4 inches when they are adults. The ones at the pet shop are about 2 inchs right now.

If you look at my sig you can see what I have in there right now..it's my 26 gallon tank.

I know they like to be in groups so I was thinking about getting 3 or so. I am planning on getting a larger tank in the next couple of months so if these guys start to get too big I can always move them.

I would appriciate any help!!

Not sure if this where I was supposed to post this...but I'm not sure which section of the forum the Siamese algae eater fish belongs too.

Fine here E'83

SAE's are good for hair algae- though I don't think they get on that well...

Be carefull what the lfs actually has as I was sold false sae and they don't like each other one bit :/

Hi wetwetwet,

Thanks for your reply!! Yeah I've been researching on the internet checking the patterns and stuff making sure that the ones my lfs is selling are the true SAE. I'm pretty sure they are the patterns match and they have the 2 "whiskers" in the front of their mouths.

I read that the true SAE get along great with other fish but it's the flying foxes and false SAE that bother other larger fish.

Do you think that I have enough room in my aquarium for like 2-3?

Thanks for the link!!

No problem :)

Sorry my bad :X looks like sae's do get along - been awhile since I read that link and have no first hand experience myself...

Maybe try a pair and see how they go
