Ok, weird (and probably dumb) question. I recently added a bi-color angel to my tank. (See sig) When I added the angel, right away it looked like it and the hawkfish were going to kill each other. They "sparred" a little without really physically causing any marks on each other and then after about 10 seconds it stopped. I thought for sure the hawkfish was going to continuously fight with the angel overnight and I would have one less fish in the morning. To my surprise, the next morning both were doing fine, and were even swimming close to each other sometimes. The thing I have a question about is this...I have noticed that the bi-color will swim over by the hawkfish and rub his body up against the hawkfish, and even the barbs on his dorsal fin. Almost "nudging" him. Has anyone else seen this, and is it an act of aggressive or territorial behavior, or something else? The hawkfish actually seems scared off by the bi-color which completely surprised me. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Hi..first off....hawkfish and angels have compatibility issues. Check out compatibility charts before purchasing fish....just a friendly note:

Compare hawkfish and angels. This behavior is probably a type of sparring or territorial behavior. The smaller of the two may be at risk for stress, disease and attack.

Secondly..the bicolor can get up to 6 inches which can be a heavy bioload for a 30G if you are planning to get more fish. The aggressive species should always be introduced to the tank last.

Hope you aren't planning on adding corals...the angels may nip at them. Considering that a 30G is somewhat of a 'large' nano tank, I don't think these were there best choices for livestock companions. JMO

Correct me if I am wrong here, but it looks like to me when you click on the link you provided, it says "Y" for dwarf angels and hawkfish.
