This is the fourth time my female guppy has fooled me into thinking she’s close to birth in the last month! She’s about a quarter inch wide when viewed from the front and was so squared off she could have brought a cut diamond to shame. Her gravid spot made her look like she swallowed a rock. But fry? Not a chance. I thought she was close and her back end was pointy, so I put her in my largest breeder box and came to look a few hours later. Fry? Nope! She actually lost the black pigment in her gravid spot and it’s now a dark tan/peachy color. What gives? Do any of you think she may be close to giving up those fry, or is there some time left to go before she drops?

She actually looks a lot smaller in this picture then she is. I think it's the angle, but oh well. Do you guys think maybe she keeps reabsorbing the fry every time due to something?

I have never heard of reabsorbing in a livebearer but I don't really think the girl in this picture is anywhere near close.

She is not squared off and is quite thin for a mature female. By the looks of her she may have had a very recent drop.

Well drat. I know the other green female I have just dropped two weeks ago (she gave me two conjoined twins-one didn't survive and the other was a partial and has a little paracitic twin on it's abdomine). This female normally drops a batch about a week to three after the first one, but if she is being stressed and reabsorbing then I suppose her fry will have to wait until I get those four female betta out of the community tank and into their own set up. Oh well, thanks for the comments!
