I heard something about female bettas lining etc going vertical when breeding or something?

Someone please fill me in !

Thanks.

OK, as far as I know....
Bettas get horizontal black stripes when they're stressed. However, I think females get vertical stripes when a males nearby and they're ready to spawn. But wait for someone cleverer to come along:)

hmm..is it sort of a death warning to have horizontal lines along them?

My female betta was displaying very strong horizontal black lines along the side of her body, im not sure what its due to, although she isnt really active at the moment, thanks for the info.

if she gets the black ones she is scared and stressed but if she gets brown ones she is ready for breed, if she cant see a male it can mean she is very happy in her home

brown horizontal lines? or vertical ones? shes with a male.

she's with a male? are you trying to breed? horizontal lines are called stress bars and males and females get them when they are in stressful situations.

as far as the "black lines" vs. "brown lines" for stress/breeding, i've never heard that . :dunno:

breeding bars are vertical and, the only ones i have ever seen had been pale stripes on the female's normal coloring.

if you are trying to breed, have you done research? there are some great threads here, especially the pinned topic at the top of the betta section

what could stress be due to ? theyre not there all day and night, they come and go.

she could be stressed by the male, turning the light on in the tank, who knows...

you haven't answered the real questions though... what fish are in the tank? are you breeding them?
