I think I've heard of a sunshine guppy but not betta.

I think you are refering to the Suthasine gold bettas from overseas. So, yes. They are like the golden sun.

If you go and look at my post earlier titled "babies on their way", the 3rd picture is of a gold betta. He is not from the original breeder who made that name, but they look like this.
