OK, logging in under bf's name :)
our new tank is 40cm long (16 inches) and I have no idea how many gallons that is, bout 25L I think? havent actually worked it out but that's what our LFS says although we have learnt to distrust them already... anyway, if we put a bristlenose in it (currently about 1 inch long in LFS) which apparently grows to approx 12 cm is the tank big enough for it? Assuming we don't have many other (smaller) fish in it. So far we only have 3 guppies and a fighting fish as tank has only just settled down.
thanks in advance

If you stick to the one inch rule you should be ok.

OK measure you tank, width and depth i.e. 16 inches x ? inches = ? inches squared

it should be 1" of fish to 10" squared of water surface

so if your tank is say 16" x 12" that equals 192" squared - so 19 inches of fish would be maximum. The inches of fish are measured without fins and go for what the adult size would be not the size they are today.

HTH :D

Great, I have a bristlenose called Harry (the Hoover) - they are really fun to own.

Don't forget to get him some algae wafers the algae in the tank is not enought for him.

When he was tiny the other fish would steel his wafer, but now he has grown a little he claims it to himself and will bash any intruders who try to steel it. A great little character, hope you enjoy him
