Not sure if anyone can help me without photos! A few months ago I purchased 3 young Peppered corys on e-bay. One of them has developed a really high dorsal fin. I assumed that he was probably male and the other two female, but looking up on internet it mentions nothing about the dorsal fin having anything to do with sexing these corys.

Does anyone have any idea as to what the really high dorsal fin means on one of my corys? Wondering if they are Peppered or something else??? Do you get hi-fin peppered corys?

Thank you! :)

If it is a pure hi-fin then as it matures the dorsal fin will get really long and trail back like a banner behind the cory, it's pectoral fins will also get quite long. I have both hi-fin and normal peppered and the hi-fin have no problems keeping up with the normals however like any fish that isn't true to its wild form you will need to ensure there is nothing sharp in your tank that the hi-fin can tear its longer fins on. Best of luck with yours they are a great fish and fun to watch cruising around.
.

Thanks Baccus. They are in a 35 litre tank with a male betta. There is a Tardis ornament and Java Fern. Nothing else in tank, and no sharp corners. If they need to be moved to a bigger tank then they can go in with my sterbais in my 260 litre female betta sorority tank.

Sounds like a good plan :good: . I'll have to try and get some decent pictures of my hi-fins but they are usually always on the move or one of the other peppered's gets in the way  . I have kept peppered and strebia together before but you will just need to find a happy medium in the tank temp as the two types do like different temps, otherwise they are fine together.

Will do. Thanks again! :)
