hi
im hopefully going on holiday next week and over weekend i was hoping to fill tank with RO water and aquascape the live rock in tank but if i do that will it be ok to go on holiday still and just leave it there (with filters and powerheads running) or can something go wrong or should i just wait untill i get back if i do go ?

what to do ?

cheers
lee

Keep the sg low (1.022) before you leave and it should be fine with just LR in there :)

sg is the specific gravity of you water. you do realise you need to put salt in the water dont you? try doing some reserch on marine keeping, you may find something usefull :good:

yup just need to know aswell how much salt per gallon?

thats why you need a hydrometer, to measure the specific gravity of the water. when the specific gravity (sg) is around 1.026 at 26-27 degrees C thats when you know you have the right amount of salt mixed in the water

i have got a hydrometer in the cupboard so thats usefull

thanks 4 the help

oh i forgot 1.026 with a gallon or with my tank

1.026 is a measure of the salt content of the water. MOST sea salts use around 1/2 cup of salt per gallon of RO water to achieve an sg of 1.023-1.026. Make sure you read the instructions on your salt bucket before mixing. If sg is too high, add fresh water, if its too low, add more salt and wait.

ok got that the salt i will be nuying is red sea salt is this ok and how much flow do i need in my tank i got
maxijet powerheads
2-1000
1-750
3-250

also have power coming out of two filter out lets

is this ok ?

You mention you have a hydrometer in the cupboard? is it a dedicated marine hydrometer or one used for making wine etc? it must be a dedicated mainre one as this is calibrated to work for a salt solution.

Please do NOT put liverock in pure RO water. You will return to a mess and very dead rock.

marine hydrometer :good:

i got told to warm up the ro water in the big tub(5 galon tub) and then add and mix salt when ready poor into marine tank keep doing that untill tank is full then put live rock in and aquasape

are these intsructions ok ?

Mate i think you'd be better to do a lot of reading and research as it sounds like you aren't prepared for what your going into...

If you get it wrong and kill your live rock it will be a huge waste of money! If i were you i'd take a few books with you on holiday to read up and when you get back start with the tank...

By then you will know what your doing....

Mixing salt... The correct weight per gallon/Litre will be on the box...

Add this quatity to the ro water with a heater and a powerhead and leave to mix for 12-24 hours...

You then add this water to the tank....

What size is your tank!?...

IMO if you havent already brought the LR you'd be best to fill your tank (with nothing in it apart from equipment) and mix the RO salt in there....

If you have brought the LR maybe you could ask someone to hold it for you till your ready to go?....

Mostly full, just one caveat, dont fill the tank before adding live rock, only go 2/3 or 3/4 full. Adding rock and sand will displace water and raise your water level in the tank. Also remember when aquascaping that the rocks should be buried in the sand so they are resting on the bottom of the tank. If you just plop them down on top of the sand it will shift over time and lead to a rock collapse.

ok thanks for the help im hoping to get the raditor removed and some sockets built in the wall

so when that is all done i will start yay
oh and btw stu my tank is 90 us gal

how much does RO water cost at ur end here it costs £10 per 5 uk gallons including tub/barrall or if u have ur own tub it costs £8 roughly is this expensive or average or cheap?

Jeez, at those prices spend the 50-100pounds and get an RO unit yourself from osmotics
