Hi guys :)

Just wanted to ask your opinion on this one! I bought a Fluval Pre-Filter media thing, and it is supposed to trap large and medium solid particles before they clog the actual material which catches the fine particles.

I was intending on getting the biomax ring ones (which allow bacteria to live on it), but they didn't have it, so i decided to get the fluval prefilter one. Since they are both ceramic, and are both hollow (but the one i bought is like octagonal); would it still do the job. Fluval says it can breed bacteria on it, but just wasn't sure...

So question; will it function the same way as the biomax one?

Thanks guys :)

The prefilter ones are smooth so not as much surface area for bacteria. The Biomax ones are porous so have a much larger surface area to grow on.

Whether this makes any difference at all in practice is probably debatable.
