well a yr from now im gonna be moving and im gonna have to sell all my fish and take down all of my tanks cuzz its gonna be out of state. well anyway i was wondering about the LR in my saltwater tank. i know once it dries out it become dead rock but will it still be good when i set up a tank again as long as i get fresh LR to seed it?

Na. It will be exactly like dead rock, and it will take the same time to re-seed as dead LR. Sell it to someone when its alive. :)

Just because it is dead, doesn't mean it isn't useful. It is still miles better than quarried base rock. So, it depends how big you are going to go on your next tank.

Like MM said, it will be dead, so you will need some live rock to reseed it, and it will unlikely ever have the full life (clams worms and other hidden creatures inside) of fresh live rock. But, the main thing we have LR for is the great balance they support between arobic and anaerobic bacteria.

You will have to recure dead rock (and it takes longer than live rock, since live rock already has the bacteria). So, you figure your value of dead rock to be a bit less than live rock... call it $3/lb. You know cured live rock goes for ~$10/Lb at the LFS. I am sure you can get $3-4/Lb from some one.

I would sell it all off and just get new stuff when you are ready.
