hi ive just recenlty got a 40 g and it came with 2 fish a sucking loach and some kinda barb, the trouble is saturday i bought some gourami and the barb has been chasing them the bard looks like a tiger barb but has long tessles on his top fin does any body know what kind of barb this is?

Not too sure on the id of the barb (pic would be great if you can) but most of them can be fairly aggressive. This can be controlled by having 5 or 6 of them as they tend to keep to themselves then.

Also things may settle down when the barb gets used to the new fish, just keep an eye on things.

you can just about to see the long fin in this pic

Too elongated for a tiger barb, looks like a hybrid vaiety, I'll do some digging and see if i can find anything.

The fish is Barbus arulius. Like most barbs, it is a fish best kept in groups. It is also a larger species and can easily exceed 100mm/4". Although it is a pretty peaceful species, a solitary specimen will get frustrated and buffet other fish.

It is otherwise, a highly desirable species.

thanxs yep that is definalty it so do u think he would calm down with the gourami? at the mo he justs chases them around but only really the male 3 spot gourami thanxs for ur help peeps ;)

You could really do with getting 3 or 4 more to calm him down but keep an eye on things, he may settle.

here is another pic of him hes still at it so may have to get rid of him is any body intrested?

If you werent so far away i'd take him....They are a great fish and as LL said they will be rather aggressive when kept solitary....Gouramis and slow moving fish will be the likely targets. Try and get a few more of them...You wont regret it :D
