so im going to set up some of my rock work for my African Cichlid tank and would like to know what to use to adhere them together? im thinking silicone but is regular "window and door" silicone made by GE good or is it toxic? if so where could i find the right silicone?

Hello there be honest I do not know if standard bathroom silicone is okay you can get purpose use silicon in almost every LFS and online store which is what i used all i can say is it smells the same.

i think what i got should be ok, the tube says 100% silicone and thats what i read is safe for aquarium use

Best to use silicone designed for water. Try buying from your LFS or use Marine Silicone if you can find it at your hardware store. Keep in mind if you're adding and removing fish on a regular basis you'll want to be re-arranging your rocks to create new territories, glueing them all together this would make this difficult. I only say this because I did the same thing long ago.

Perfect :good:

You do not want to use the bathroom silicone. It is made with antifungal ingredients that are not good for your fish. The door and window type usually does not have the added resistance to fungus.

exactly. Just go and buy some aquarium silicone or sealant then you don't have to worry if it is going to affect your tank.

Don't glue them together as you may need to remove them to clean, if you get some good sized rocks and berry them under the sand so the cichlids cant dig under them they should stack stable if ur careful they will not move or fall over. i dont glue any of ours together so that we can clean them out much eaisier.

Dont use bathroon scilicon as they usualy have antimould stuff which easily leach out into the water and can resualt in killing the fish.
Best sticking to stuff from the shops.

Personally i wouldn't stick them together.

I have a lot of rock in my tank and none is stuck together what so ever and its all fine. Only thing i would say is put the bottom row of rock directly onto the egg crate/glass bottom and the rock should go anywhere as long as there are stacked properly.

I definitely would not use any other silicone unless i bought it from an lfs. might be over priced but at least i know its going to be safe.

The other thing you could use in marine putty. This is use in marine tanks to stick rocks together and stick coral frags to rocks.

The other thing you could do is drill holes in the rocks and use acrylic rods through the holds to make it more stable.

I didn't glue mine together because it would be impossible to remove them . Place them on the glass bottom, so they can't be dug out, and stack them carefully. Trust me, there will be times when you need to move the rocks....to clean, to remove fry, to net a sick fish etc....
