Hello,
I have a question for the bird lovers and bird owners here on the forum. There is this rare parakeet that at my local PetSmart costs $200.00 American money. My question is what is it called? It's all blueish green all over the body and on the wings there is yellow and red. The pet store sign said it was a rare parakeet. Does anyone know what I am talking about, or would I have to get a picture of this little guy for you guys to understand what I'm talking about?

Pic would help. I've never heard of a rare parakeet. The expensive ones at our pet shop are the albino ones and they are around 50 bucks or so. All the other colors are around 20.
Edit: Actually I've never seen or heard of a parakeet with red tint? Maybe someone who knows more about them can help you with that one. This would be an interesting investigation.....

from Wikipedia:
A parakeet is one of several parrot species. The term is descriptive and used for small to medium-sized, long-tailed parrots but does not imply a taxonomic link between the different parakeets.

For the small bird often sold in pet stores, see budgerigar.

For other birds with the name "Parakeet", see:

Carolina Parakeet
Monk Parakeet
Alexandrine Parakeet
Barred Parakeet
Blue-crowned Parakeet
Green Parakeet
Pacific Parakeet
Red-masked Parakeet
Red-breast Parakeet
Rose-ringed or Ring-necked Parakeet

so, yes, we would probably need to see a picture before we can tell you anything about this "rare parakeet". but it probably also isn't just a fancy budgerigar. ;)
