Question about my Filter

I have a 10 gallon tank that I got at wal-mart. It came with a pretty strong filter and everytime i used it my females would be pulled toward it, so i only kept it on for an hour or 2 at a time, and changed the water completely every 2 weeks. I have now slowed the filter down to a constant low flowing stream so it doesn't make any bubbles or pull the fish toward it(i stopped the filter hose up w/ a foam filter insert). Now I run it all the time. I was wondering if u guys think that this is ok, or if i should take more of the filter out and increase the flow? i don't want to stress my girls out too much but in the time i have been using this method, I have noticed a huge difference in the water. What is ur opinion?

It should be fine, I think. Just keep a close eye on your water parameters

I agree. Is your tank cycled? I'm not sure how turning off the filter would affect the cycle.

As long as there is water inside the filter, most of the bacteria should survive even when it's off... but that's another good reason to keep a close eye on your water parameters, just incase
