I have a 10 gallon tank that I got at wal-mart. It came with a pretty strong filter and everytime i used it my females would be pulled toward it, so i only kept it on for an hour or 2 at a time, and changed the water completely every 2 weeks. I have now slowed the filter down to a constant low flowing stream so it doesn't make any bubbles or pull the fish toward it(i stopped the filter hose up w/ a foam filter insert). Now I run it all the time. I was wondering if u guys think that this is ok, or if i should take more of the filter out and increase the flow? i don't want to stress my girls out too much but in the time i have been using this method, I have noticed a huge difference in the water. What is ur opinion?

It should be fine, I think. Just keep a close eye on your water parameters :)

As long as there is water inside the filter, most of the bacteria should survive even when it's off... but that's another good reason to keep a close eye on your water parameters, just incase :)
