I have had a betta in a cat shaped fish bowl for about 6 months and I was considering moving him to my 2.5 minibow aquarium but that tank has had a betta in their that either stressed him out to bite his fins or he tore them on something. So my question is their a chance this betta can get stressed and bite his fins that has nothing wrong with them or could he scratch it on something? If their is a chance that will happen I won't do it but if it isn't let me know.

Hello? And I just noticed the the end of his back fin is alittle torn and I can't tell if its fin rot yet.

I'm a little confused as to what exactly your question is? Are you saying that you had a betta in the said minibow before and he was stressed in it? And would it be ok to put the other in there? or would he also be stressed? Ok I'm confusing myself more. If you could try to give a little clearer picture maybe I can help you?

Yes, moving fish can stress them.

Yes, putting a fish in a divided tank where they can see the other fish can stress them.

Yes, stress can lead to them biting their own fins.

Yes, it's possible for them to tear their fins on things in a tank.

Yes, you should treat the fish with the chewed/torn fins because damaged fins can lead to fin rot or a bacterial infection later on.

wow SRC you are good....... Maybe I've just learned too much in classes today, and thus my brain has shut down, and my reading skills are now slacking :p

lol  silly

I would also like to mention..that Minibow's (the ones that come with a made on filtration system) have too strong a current.

Especially when you have it divided.
The fish on the output side is going to have a tough time dealing with the resulting current. Putting a stocking, or a block of filter foam, over the intake tube helps curb this problem greatly.

I don't have it divided. Ok sorry for confusing you all, I start over. I have had a betta in a cat shaped fish bowl and was wondering if he would be happier in a 2.5 minibow aquarium (I already took the filter out) and was wondering if his fins would become ripped in this tank because the previous betta that was in their ( which is in a 1/2 gallon fish bowl while I'm treating his fins then he will go to my 10g when I fix p.h. problem) tore his fins so bad I had to take him out. So I was wondering if this bettas fins would also become torn since I've took out the filter which the other betta might have torn it on and I took out the cave/tunnel that has rough edges that could have torn them.

Individual fish react to things differently.

Unless there are plastic plants in the 2.5 that the fish could rip his fins on..then he probably chewed them himself, or blew his tail (if it is a delta or halfmoon, they seem to do that alot when they have heavy finnage and have alot of room to swim about in).

There is no way to say if the other fish will have the same problems as well.

If the fish you put in the 2.5 before chewed up his fins, or blew them..I would definately NOT put that fish in a 10 gallon. Some fish cannot handle being in a vast amount of tank..it seems to frustrate them/freak them out and cause them to chew their fins..kinda like biting nails in humans...it's a nervous response.

As mentioned before, each fish is different and will handle/accept things differently. And some just do not like a big tank.

Pretty much the only thing you can do is try it with the new fish...and just keep a close eye on it.

I don't know if this is a diease or not but the betta I just put in the 2.5 on his body it looks like alot of his scales are missing and where the missing scales are its black is that normal with missing scales? And he seems to be sitting at the top alot do you all know why this is?
