Question About Lights

Alright I have come to the planted section because Im looking at setting up a planted tank, and you guys probably know the most about lights. Alright so I have been looking at compact florecent lights, and I like the ones that come with a moon light built in, but I was wondering how that works when these lights only have 1 power switch and only one power cord. How can you hook it up to a timer then? And how do you get it to switch to the moonlight at night?

If they are the ones with the blue LED moonlights the power switch only controls the main lamp and not the LEDS which are always on. No way to time them separately though with only one power cord.
