I have my RO/DI unit set up now and have decided what tank to get (which I'm going to get in the next couple of weeks). Going for a FOWLR with the view of having it quite lightly stocked and eventually turn it into a full reef setup.

I'm a long way off getting fish but want to start stocking up on things.

First question is what salt mix would everyone recommend?

Second question is what foods should I start stocking up on? I have a lot of frozen bloodworm and daph which I feed my FW fish and know will be good for the marine fish too. I have seen TONS of different marine foods though and I guess most of them are only good for specific fish/corals/inverts but are there any types of food that I should make sure I keep in stock?

I know its probably hard to recommend food when I dont know what fish I'm going to get yet and that some fish might need special food but just after some general recommendations :)

Also are there any other "dry goods" that would be good to start stocking up on? I'm thinking phosphate and n itrate removers to go in the canister filter from the start but cant think of anything else :)

Phosphate removers, activated carbon, and maybe some quality flake/pellets. But don't go too big on foods. I find it best when first getting fish to ask the LFS what they're feeding the fish at the time, and start them off with some of that before weaning them on to your preferred diet as they can be picky eaters after being shipped halfway across the globe ;)

1. Everyone has different views, they all do the job.
2. Mysis shrimp is liked by many fish, good quality flake food (omega one etc) or pellet food etc. Fish love brine a lot but theres not much nutrition in brine shrimp, its like junk food to them so you dont need brine. Baby brine has more nutrition though, as well as spirulna enriched brine.
3. Carbon (optional), phosphate removers, purigen maybe?
