This may be in the wrong place, So i appologise now if this should be somewhere else.

I have a lovely betta who i have had for quite a while now, About 5/6 months and have never once seen him try and build a bubble nest.

I have shown a lady to him, and although he got very excited, and the female got very up for it too, He eventualy lost interest and started ignoring her.

Is this something i am doing wrong, or is he just not interested?? :dunno:

I have two more lovely bettas who although don't build nests yet are blowing bubbles all the time.

I don't mind if he is not interested as he was my first betta and i love him dearly  But would like to know if it is something i am doing wrong as i would like to eventualy breed my new boys. (next yr) (will be wanting some ladies for them soon bettaman :shifty: )

Any tips or info ?? I read the breeding post but it doesn't really say much on what to do if he/she isn't interested.

Sorry for the long post, I hope you can help :)

maybe he is gay lol im jkin
maybe he doesnt know how to build a nest i have a male who will build a massive nest with no female in sight but when u put a female near him he will flar but has no will to make a nest and breed its madness lol

I have had the problem in the past but i still went ahead and put the female in the tank with him he then kept chasing but on the third day they spawned and i had babies from that spawn....they are now three months old and have just had two spawns from them plus another in progress as i wright this it just a matter of when they are ready not when you want them to most of the time if you condition correctly in keeping them apart seeing no other bettas and only letting them see each other for 20 Minuit's a day they usually spawn within 12 hours of being put together sometime almost straight away...... :D

Ok right so if he doesn't know how to build a nest how do i teach him ? Shall i get the fairy liquid and a straw out ???

Seriously now though how long should i keep trying for will it be something he will change his mind over (if you gedt what i mean?) Am going to try what bettaman said but wont i stress the female if i am putting her in and taking her out every day ?? (she has her own tank you see) Bettaman how old are my boys roughly ?? When do you think will be a good time for them to spread their oats ?

Can you tell i'm new at this breeding lark ?? :D

The red hm is 4 months old now as is the black ct, so if its him your using it will take him time, as he is new to the game cant you put both tanks side by side and put a piece of cardboard in between so the can only see each other when its removed,or you could put the black ct next to him and he should just blow bubbles as he is a threat again for a hour or so a day, so he not too stressed, or even a mirror against his tank he will see himself and that is the same, its a threat that way he will blow a nest when he is put with the female, although i have a ct only builds a nest when he is picking up the eggs, its hard to say what to try its a trail and error with bettas as what works for one will not work for another i have had a pair together for a week, he has built and then lost interest and then started again and as I'm in there today as a week off work they spawned late this afternoon and both picked the eggs up and put them in the nest......i was going to take them both out today as well and thats over a week together and no damage to either of them. if not then the straw without the fairy liquid of corse and blow one for him.......

No it's not him im using My original betta Wobble.

So shall i put a female one side and one of the new boys the other side of him is that what you mean ??

Such a lazy fish, there is no way i'm getting the straw and wasting my fairly liquid on him, Knowing him he would probably ignor it anyway LOL

Will try that for a few days and see how we get on. - (not the straw idea before i worry alot of people)

Thanks

Yes you can try that as he may then defend the female of the species how old is he he may just be past it..........and just content to lounge around eat everything you give him and stress you out now and again by sitting on the bottom feeling sorry for himself as we all know they do sometimes or refuse to eat......

Sounds like you know him ! ! although he would NEVER refuse food he's too greedy and fat for that.
