Question about breeding Characins

Question I: How do you reduce the amount of eggs one characin lays? Say a Tiger Barb lays hundred of eggs. (Really? ) I would want to make the Tiger Barb to lay the most 4 eggs.

Question II: Is the only solution to my question in "Question I" to be cruel and kill all of the Tiger Barb fry until I have 4 Tiger Barb fry?

There isn't anyway to reduce the number of eggs a fish lays, however, if you don't feel that you can care for 100+ fry, you can always do a cull. It is also very difficult, if not impossible, to sort out the eggs since they are so small, so it is best to leave them
