i love bettas and i really want one! in my tank i have 2 silver sharks, 1 red tailed shark, 3 panda corys, 5 black neons and one gold gourami. would it be ok to have a betta in this community?

 No, I don't know much about the sharks, but golden gouramis can be very aggressive with bettas and the bettas with them, the tetras are nippy and like to nip at betta fins.

In America I can get a 2.5 gallon (about 9 liters, I think?) glass aquarium with a glass cover for 8$, which is about what, 3 1/2 pounds? So I think for about 7 pounds (I could be totally wrong on the conversions) which is about $15.50, you could get a small betta tank (only for one betta though!), but thats assuming you have spare gravel at home from your other tanks and extra dechlorinater.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't one pound about $2 1/5 or $2.20?

i was in the travel agents today and £1 is $1.76. hmm i could do that, would need to get more gravel and plants etc. what about heating the water etc?

I use 25 Watt Neptune heaters, which are made by marineland, and although they are not fully-submersible, they work great and are small. Any 25W heater would do fine in a 2.5 gallon though.

I have my bettas in 1. a 1-gal fish bowl, and 2. a 1 1/2 gallon margarita glass (I found it in the floral department in Walmart, which is where I also got the cool stones for it for a lot less than they were in the fish dept). I don't have heaters on them because the house stays at least 65 during the winter and I put them near a vent. So far I've had no problems with them this way. Plus, I've not found heaters to use in a tank that small.
If you have live plants in your big tank you can always separate a couple of them to use in the betta tank too.
Happy hunting for a beautiful betta!

I'd also have to say that you probably wouldn't be able to have a betta in that tank. Someone would be nipped horribly.

Just a note, how big is this tank? Silver sharks get over a foot long and need to be in groups of about 6 I think.
