why do they put bettas in blue colored water?

Those are usually new arrivals. The 'blue tint' is MethyBlue - a medicine used as a preventative of stress-caused disease such as Ich.

thanks...im thinking about getting a new betta for my one gallon. i had one in a light container that i thought was protected from my cats but when i wasnt home she knocked it over
