i have a 55 ltr planted aquarium with pressurised co2, drop checker is at a healthy lime green colour in the day while diffusing co2. I noticed my ember tetras nipping up at the surface (a clear sign of shortage of oxygen in the water) would it be safe to run the venturi valve on my powerhead at night when the co2 is off? or would this cause too much of a fluctuation in the water ph and cause an algae bloom?

Hi
Its best if you can get some dual gas transfer exchange by increasing the height of your spray bar or lily pipe.
You will use slightly more Co2 but your inhabitants will be happier.

No this will be absolutely fine. Fluctuations like this will not cause algae when lights are off.
Plants reverse at night. Give off co2 and absorb o2. If you can oxygenate the water at night, then do it:)

ok thanks a lot for the help, was really unsure and didnt want to harm my fish or cause algae, thnx for the fast responses

yes my fish have died a few times over night due to lack of O2 in the water from the plants sucking it all in. BUT if you can keep some surface movement not much just a ripple that is enough to maintain O2 levels in the tank, but make sure the lights are consistant, i had my lights being switched on over night at a party and it killed my fish :( as the plants drew to much o2 out of the water come morning when the lights did go off
