I am currently still running my nano tank with a pair of firefish in there. The longterm plan is to keep it running as a Quarantine tank for the rest of the stuff for the reef tank and for the FOWLR system (Lord grant me the patience to do this properly).
I need to move the vast percentage of the rock out of the nano for scaping my 5ft so question is what to do?
The tank is 18G and has about 15kg of rock in it, in the rear chambers are sponge and filter floss and there is no skimmer running. Plan is to take out all but one piece of the rock, I would like to reclaim the powerhead too for use behind the rock pile in the 5ft. I have a U4 internal canister filter that I could stick in the nano to run Live Rock rubble.
So what do you think? How would you use the kit I have to make a decent Q tank and still let me steel most of its contents for the 5ft?

I think most people run quarantine/hospital tanks empty. The treatments you may have to administer could damage or destroy LR or LR inhabitants. Hospital/quarantine tanks are generally setup and then broken down when not in use. Just leave it empty and then when you need it fill it with water from Display tank. You just do regular water changes to maintain water quality for the 4-6 weeks they are in use. As long as your only introducing 1-2 fish at a time this should be fine.

Thanks, yeah that was the advice I read everywhere, in this case it is in the corner of the living room and will probably be constantly inhabited for the next 6 months, so might stick some ocean rock or something in to make it a bit more interesting looking given that I have my 100G FOWLR set up to stock the mrs is going to get fed up of staring at an empty tank. Might leave the rock with the aptasia on it in there and make my next acquisition an aptasia eating filefish.
