I was wondering what would be considered enough water movement in a quarantine tank.

In my quarantine tank I use up to 80 litres, I think a filter is overkill for a single fish who's treatment would usually only last a week, and if it went over this I could do a water change.

Therefore my thoughts are I only need enough water movement to circulate heat/medicines and stop the water stagnating.

Could I achieve this with a simple air pump, if so should I use a stone or curtain, and what is the difference?

Thanks
Michael

Would that not work out expensive compared to an air pump?

Oh, also just to confirm, I'm comparing a 12" air curtain to a 12" air stone.

Thanks
Michael

If you're going to keep it for a QT tank, I'm sure you want some kind of filtration. The sponge filter would help in biological filter. The internal filter would help in mechanical and biological filter. An airpump with a curtain of bubble just oxygenates the water. You would have to do more frequent, probably daily, water changes to help reduce the ammonia & nitrites. The water still needs to get filtered. The filter would help oxygenate the water, by helping oxygenate the water.

Treatments usually last at least a week. Depending on the problem, you maybe treating the fish for at least 2-3 weeks.
