Hello im contemplating setting up a QT tank for new additions and was wondering a few things.
What size tank does it have to be?
Is it just a bare tank if so what do you use for filtration?
Does it need lights?
Do I need circulation?

You can use a plastic box/container, they are perfect for anything that doesnt jump :good: and just put the lid on for anything that does jump - I put some holes in my lid

Yep, no live rock - an external filter will be needed if treating the tank for such things as white spot or many water changes.

Nope, no lights needed.

Yes, to keep ph etc stable

Also need something for fish to hide/go to bed in

i'm also interested in setting up a QT i have a 5 gallon tank that was originally intended as a sump but i decided its too small for that. my question is does it need to be permanently set up or can it just be filled as & when, never went down the QT route with the trops but with the cost of marine livestock and corals etc decided it might be worth trying. btw the tank has no hood and no lights & at the mo no heater well basically its just a bare tank

I just set it up as and when, usually I sacrafice a piece of live rock for fish - but havent had a problem yet, so was able to put it back in main display. Corals/Nems would appreciate some light - but they wouldnt be in there that long, so its not a problem without. I would consider buying some egg crate or the like to put over the top, many fish jump!
