i got 3 pigmy puffer fish on tuesday and wondered if anyones had any experience with these, ive been told they are community fish but i have seen some tail nipping going on in the tank.

thanks for your reply, my brother has them in his tank and they are fine with his fish, i think i will take them back to my LFS.

Youve posted this question in the brackish forum, just making sure you know pygmy/dwarf puffers are freshwater fish ??
And as NMonks has said they are really a species only fish. Nasty little buggers they can be!! :shout:

They are cute but nipply little things. I put some in my community tank after the lfs said that they'd be fine and they were for the first couple of months. Then I noticed small pieces of fins missing on my other fish and realised that it was the DPs. I ended up taking them back, which was sad, and my other fish are fine.

I've had one for a couple of weeks - he was behaving himself fine and getting on with the guppies until a couple of days ago, and now he's decided to play 'Chase the dude with the biggest tail'. I think there'll be a bit of re-arranging once I get my 40gal set up.

You do know that Dwarf Puffers are fresh and not brackish water?
