Basically their whiskers on the front of the mouths, they use these for eating, rummaging around etc, gravel can damage the barbels or wear them down.

LOL no worries Lilyrose. Yep their cute cute whiskers  Most usually recommend sand if not then rounded gravel. It is nothing too much to worry about just keep an eye out (also in general as these can be a good indication if a cory is not doing too well or bacterial infection present etc).

And also should have said earlier, really great pick as these are hard to get good ones off  :good: How many pygmies did you get in the end? Is that all of them or are others lurking :fun:

I have 9 of them, only seen them swimming together yesterday, I was thrilled, I like how they will send one back to get the lost one back in formation.....cute or what. I love pandas and albinos and i think banded are nice too.....might have to have a cory tank!!!! my hubby would go spare. I've set up three tanks in the last 2 months as it is....it's addictive!!!lol

Oh no you have MTS! Welcome to the club. I was the same got a large tank, then kept finding small bargains or they were given to me. Only been fishkeeping a year and already had to downsize on tanks as grew too fast  Awwww a group of 9, perfect and they are so cute in a larger group like that. Get a cory tank! Cory tank!!!

the problem I have right now is fry. lots and ;ots of fry, well 54 to be exact with two more pregnancies iminent,, i think , so my cory tank will have to be a maternity tank until all female stop giving birth. thank god we didnt inherit the ability to store sperm....reason for a hysterectomy right there!!! anyway, the tank i have "spare" is a 64L tank which I have just "raped"( please excuse, no offence intended) the filter sponge from to ensure that my 48L tank the corys are in is cycled or majoritily cycled as I have their new room mate coming this week. My superdelta betta will hopefully be home by the end of the week and will have moved in. Hope he doesnt mind his room mates. but i heard that it was better to introduce him to them rather than them to him,if you know what i mean. and MTS? multi tank syndrome?????? at a guess lol...yeah, i need a bigger house as we have 3 bedrooms and 5 kids, now i need a new house for the fish!

Yeah lol multi tank syndrome  With the betta that is the better way round of doing things as he hasnt already setup a terrority or "mine" thing, though do be prepared that he wont accept them, most I have read on here have (and worked for one of mine too) but some just wont have tank mates at all, just wont share! Im sure your gorgeous new boy will get on with them well xx

i have just got a group of 9 i am just wonding weather any one has got them to breed? the only things in the tank with them is outher corys and some guppy fry

Mine breed when I had a gorup of 5 and bred pretty much every other day, they were in a species tank only though, no other occupants. I had a small 5g with lots of filtration, silk plants and most importantly for them it seemed floating foxtail which they ladened continuously with eggs. I took a while to know how to raise them and lost many as the fry are super tiny compared to normal cories and then had an epidemic so lost them all. Be prepared to have a microworm culture started as I didtn have this with the fry around and believe it would have helped them eat and grow easier (it has done on another species of fry). The guppies and other cories may eat the eggs
