First off, i have probably posted something similar before but i cannot find the topic because it was quite a while ago :)

I have wanted to own pygmy cories for a very long time and i bought a group eventually a few months ago but unfortunatly lost them all to a bacterial infection a few days later, so i never really got to see what they were like.

I am considering getting another group next week but i have some questions first.

1 - How big a group should i get? Whats the best number?

2 - What is the maximum tank mate size (i.e. so they dont get eaten!)

Thanks :) x x x

They should be kept in groups of no less than 6. What size tank do you have and how many fish are already in it?

1.6
2.8-10cm depending on whether it is carnivore or not, peaceful or not, big mouth or not...

Thanks for replying so quickly.
I am aware that minimum is 6 but i was thinking more that is it better for them to be in a bigger group - e.g. 10?

Its a 25gallon and the tank mates will be;
8 Kuhli Loaches
3 Pitbull Plecos (parotocinclus jumbo)
6 Rummy Nose Tetra
2 German Blue Ram Cichlids
6 Cherry Barbs

I have two of them and they are great fun to watch they chase the zebras around the tank, my stock is

24" 68Lt.
4 zebras,
2 Platys,
2 dwarf cory's,
3 Glass Bloodfin Tetra,
2 Coolie/Khuli loach,
1 Sunset Platy

Well yes, these are much better in bigger groups and they are much more active and shoal better in larger groups

I have 6 of them in a 35L and to be honest I wouldn`t have any more in a tank that size, so I personally would say 6 is plenty for your 25L B-)

Mine zip all over the place and are always together so 6 is an adequate enough number for them to play and be happy I think. :good:

You mean 25 gallons not litre?

Mine don't always hang together but they're lovely fish I think. I'd love to have more of them ideally!

Don`t you roll your eyes at me Mr!

Yes my mistake, I misread 25G for 25L. I would imagine just a few little pygmy corys would get lost in a 25G........ unless you can get a very large number of them :hey:

If you get a group of 10 or more, then you certainly wont loose them in a big tank

Excellent!!

I absolutely love the pygmy`s, wish I had room for that many in my 35L

Ty everyone for posts.

I am definatly going to get some soon.
I would like to get a big shoal but unfortunatly my lfs only have 10. I have reserved them for now and i am hoping that when they are older i'll breed them.
That way i can increase my numbers without the cost! Plus a little fun project for me seeing as i have never bred cories before :)

Any tips?
Has anyone else bred them before?

Thanks again x x x
